Chugging Along

Yes, yes. We haven't blogged in over a month. So sorry. We were pretty busy during August. Since its both of our birthdays & our anniversary, we decided to throw everything together with our long awaited housewarming in the form of a bbq. Well, 2 bbqs. One for family then one a week later for friends. And we got a new nephew next door as well. Busy month indeed.

So the house was clean, then dirty, then clean, then dirty, then clean... But thanks to our many festivities, our basement got some sprucing up. We set up all of my dad's old shelves along the wall after we hacked off the Styrofoam. The couch and futon moved around the new Ikea coffee table that houses the new used projector.

Ah, coffee table. Good time to insert a story. So at the first bbq we kinda just thru the projector on a fold up table with the vcr hooked up to watch TV. My cousin bugs Chris into setting up the PS2 downstairs to play streetfighter or whatever. Since that was such a success, we decided to buy a coffee table. After a few hours at Ikea, we decide on this one. First of all, they were out of stock and had to get more from the inventory way up high in the shelves which they don't do during business hours so Chris had to come back the next day. The when we get it home the lower shelf is too high to fit the projector and the grooves under the shelf, where it sits on the pegs attached to the legs, are offset so the bottom shelf sticks out like nearly an inch. So instead of returning it, we try to drill new grooves and drill new holes for the pegs to set the shelf lower. The grooves were a bit of a challenge since the drill kept jumping but we got it done. After we drill the new holes for the pegs we realize the legs are hollow everywhere except the original peg positions. This means the tiny 2" pegs won't have much support in the leg to hold up the shelf and projector. So we go to H.D. for some L brackets to screw into the leg instead. At least its attached at 2 points instead of just one. When all is said and done, we flip it over and there's a big scratch on the top surface from sliding it in the box. Its petty superficial so a wax cleaner should cover it up. Was it worth it? I guess we get what we pay for. But it is a nice table for what it is.

Moving on. We finally got some weather proofing paint on the gate. Its got some stain in it so we were a bit surprised at the color when we put it on. It was a bit dark. But it dried lighter and I'm sure over time it'll lighten up. I'll put up pix soon.

That was last week. We've been pretty lazy and yet busy with other stuff to do more work to the house. Hopefully we'll get our butt in gear again and get our chimney checked out before winter, finish the basement ceiling, clear up the cottage for potential visitors during the holidays (unless they want to sleep in the basement). Then there's always the driveway, garage, and backyard. *sigh*
